A Better Tomorrow...

I am so glad to see this past week go - it was just taxing all the way around. We typically don't have bad weeks and it's unusual for me to feel this way, but it's been a disaster around here. To start the week, one of my dear friend's father had a massive heart attack. Fortunately, after swift medical intervention and much prayer, his prognosis for a full recovery is excellent.

Then, there's the crazy schedule our family keeps that has me both exhausted and on the brink of insanity - 10 sports practices each week, four games and five music lessons. I joked with the kids this week that I could really use a desk and a kitchen table in my car, since that's where we always are.

My Little League board meeting left me with homework preparing for clinics they want to have the weekend before Christmas. While I was attending the board meeting, my husband attended a soccer meeting where they informed the parents that everything is going to step up another notch, as if the seven year old boys are all in college and fighting for scholarships.  More craziness!

The day after this, we spent two hours in the principal's office defending the character of one of our children. It ended peacefully enough, but I found it to be an unnecessary process that really took its toll. After two hours of rather heated, extremely passionate defense of our child's honor, emotions welled up in me that I did not realize I possessed and this resulted in a dreadful headache that lasted a full two days. I'm grateful, really, that I did not have a vessel explode inside my head.

Finally, as the week came to a close, we decided to carve out time to go up north to the cabin for 48 hours of relaxation. Quiet time away from our crazy lives. Time that we all really needed. After Buck's football game Friday night and a nice visit with his coach, we hit the road and headed north. We arrived after midnight, exhausted and freezing, literally. We got the heater going and everyone fell into bed. Everything was fine until about 10:00 am the next morning when we discovered that the water was off. No running water can really put a damper on a weekend.....no hand washing, clothes washing, showers or toilet flushing. It was a mystery and we were in big trouble. Then, not more than an hour after discovering the water was off, we watched our gas fireplace flicker off. Checking further, we found that our propane tank - the one that heats the cabin, fuels the stove and the fireplaces - was empty. No more heat!

It's funny how cranky people can become without heat and without running water. Audra remained positive and wanted to stay and "camp" while I demanded that we get out before the freeze engulfed the indoors. (I was cold about fifteen minutes after we lost our heat.) Our weekend respite ended up being a quick overnight stay followed by a long, solemn drive home.

So, as I mentioned earlier, I'm so glad this week is over. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to a better tomorrow!

I pray you have a much better week. Sorry you had a stinky week. It does sound rather...what's the word I am looking for?...well, it sounds like it sucked. Perhaps that's not an elegant word, but that's what I am reading. Many blessings for a much better week!
