Back To Normal

Thanks to the sweet friends who checked in to encourage me after our odd week last week.  I'm relieved to post that life is back to normal around here and that's a very good thing.  I'm not sure what normal looks like at your house, but here's a brief glimpse into our normal:

* Colton stepped on glass the other day and after the Band Aid came off, he ran around waving it in the air saying, "Look, it's the Japan flag. I'm Japan."  As we gathered to inspect his "flag", we did find a perfect red circle in the middle of the white telfa pad.  Indeed, Japan's "flag".

* Buck lost a tooth several days ago and carefully sealed it in a zip lock bag before taping it to his doorknob. The first morning, he awoke extremely disappointed that the tooth fairy forgot to come. (I tried to explain how very tired the tooth fairy must be and suggested that perhaps she just needs a little more grace.) The second morning he awoke to find the tooth still hanging from the doorknob and no money. He made no mention of it and just walked past, as if ignoring the situation would somehow diminish his disappointment. Tonight as the boys were getting ready for bed, Colton suggested that he write a ransom note....Bring me $20 for the tooth, since you are late, and please let me keep the tooth. Buck decided against the ransom note and mentioned that he'd be happy with 50 cents.

* While getting the kids ready for school this morning, Wade began screaming for me from the master bathroom. From the tone and the level of intensity, the kids and I expected to find him missing a limb. We flew across the house and there he was, trying to stop the three foot geyser that was shooting up from the faucet and into the light fixture above. The cold water hitting the hot bulbs resulted in a plethora of broken glass, which floated on the river that had formed on the counter top and flowed over the edge onto the floor like Niagara Falls. Together, we managed to get the water turned off from under the sink and successfully mopped up the large river that ran through the bathroom.

* Colton continues to run through the house each day with both his whistle and his stop watch, calling fouls on each of us as he sees fit, while frequently timing everyone's bathroom visits and showers. (I continue to rely on Motrin.)

* Last night the kids decided to play musical beds in the middle of the night, which resulted in a painful night's sleep on the couch for this mom. Sierra came into our room at 1 AM in tears, with severe heartburn. I got up and medicated her while she begged to sleep in our room. (Sleeping with Sierra is never a good idea) After suffering several blows to the spine, kidneys and spleen, I retreated to the couch where I froze and incurred a slight shoulder injury due to the lack of surface area. I awoke to Wade asking where Colton was - he wasn't in his bed. Searching the house, we found him in Audra's bed, where he went after having a bad dream.

It's great to report that life is back to normal around our crazy house. But, before checking out for the day, it's time to fly by Buck's room with some loose change.  Better late than never...
