Santa
Friday, December 18, 2009 at 10:53PM Being Christian and raising our kids to understand that Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus, we've put very little emphasis on Santa over the years. This is not to say that we haven't played along with the whole Santa thing on some small level and our kids have all had their fair share of years believing that a rotund, bearded man in a red suit would land on our roof and leave one unwrapped gift along with a stuffed stocking for each of them on Christmas Eve.
Audra, being extremely bright, figured it all out fairly early. I remember the day she asked me all the hard questions, to which I tried to give easy, indirect answers. The look on her face told me that she knew. But, she was smart enough to realize that if she said anything about what she knew, the jig would be up and Santa would not be coming back. So, she played along and remained a great sport over the years, as her siblings have followed along.
This year, it is Colton who is gung-ho about Santa. He is not asking any questions and is sure that whatever he decides to ask for, he will be receiving. He wrote his first note to Santa about a month ago, over Thanksgiving break. In the past 48 hours, he has added two pages to the first letter. Just the other day, as I was getting him ready for school, I apologized for his tennis shoes which so need to be replaced. "It's okay mom, why don't you just ask Santa to bring me a pair. Then they will be free." I love to see little glimpses into the minds of our precious children.
Yesterday, he flew into my room as I was climbing into bed. He wrote another note to Santa and laid it on my bedside table. "Can you mail this to Santa in the morning so it gets there in time? I remembered something I needed to ask him."
There it was, written in second grade penmanship....Santa, please bring me a one-year-old baby brother.

I love this time of year and the excitement in our (and other's ) children. I can just see Colton getting ready for Santa and all the things that have entered his mind but didn't make a list. As for that last request, I can't wait to see Wade's face on Christmas morning when Santa fills that last Christmas wish. Good Luck.
Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Louie! Yes, we'll see what sits beneath the tree in the morning....Christmas blessings to you and your sweet family!
What a great blog! It is a pity that I can not find RRS address. If RRS offers a subscription service, I can easily follow your blog!

Thanks for the compliment on the blog, Air Jordans. I have it set for RSS, but looking back to archived entries, there is no RSS on these anymore. I will investigate.....thanks for commenting and thanks for your suggestion.
