Happy Father's Day
Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 05:46PM To all of the wonderful dad's who check in on my blog, happy Father's Day! I'm blessed to know so many terrific dads and I hope the day has been special for each of you.
My husband woke up this morning with a giant grin on his face. The kids noticed it first. With that mischievous twinkle in his eye, I knew he was looking forward to taking full advantage of "his" day. We all woke early so the kids could give them his gifts and their cards. We then drove across town to take my mom to church. There were beautiful flowers on the altar in memory of my dad and it was such a special day because we got to see so many friends from our former church, friends we only see a few times a year but carry in our hearts every day. We left church and the nine of us went out to lunch at my husband's favorite restaurant in the area. With that familiar twinkle in his eye and at every opportunity throughout the day, he would stop and remind us that it was Father's Day. When our son could not finish is salad and offered it to me, my husband was quick to remind us what day it was. I gave him the salad. He loved this and we catered to his most every whim, until finally, I reminded him that every day, for him, is Father's Day. He agreed. He's got it pretty good. Four kids who adore him, a wife who loves and respects him and a career he's crazy about. He's a great dad and we've all had a nice day together.
Of course I miss being with my wonderful dad on Father's Day. I'm hoping that there are countless golf courses in Heaven and if I'm right, I know that my dad is out there on the course today, with his dad and a foursome of friends. I'm sure he's laughing at his own mistakes and encouraging the others when they duff a few shots. I loved all the days we spent on the golf course together and he always made me feel like I was a much better golfer than I am. I'm really horrible, but he'd always find something positive to say. I'm sure he's doing the same thing today and I can't wait to play with him again someday. I know he'll have a cart ready and he'll let me drive.
Some of us grew up with great dads, as I did and some are fortunate to still have their dads with them. But, all of us, even those who did not grow up with a great dad or those who had no dad at all are still loved by the greatest Father of them all. What a blessing to have a Father in Heaven who loves us and accepts us despite our imperfection and our failures.
With Him, it always Father's Day!

My dear Sheila, it was so nice to see you at soccer practice. I just hope that our sons will play another season together... for us... hahaha,
Sylvie, seeing you at soccer totally made my day! You are so sweet and I just love you. I, too, hope the boys will play together this season. It's so much more fun watching them when we can visit. Thanks for commenting on my blog and thanks for your kind feedback about it. See you soon, dear friend...
