Christmas Cookie Tradition...
Saturday, December 25, 2010 at 08:24PM One of the traditions that our family holds dear, is our annual Christmas cookie decorating night that the kids share with our dear, dear friends - Ed and Sue - who lovingly make homemade sugar cookies, cut into festive shapes and baked to a golden perfection to be decorated with homemade frosting and endless toppings. Usually, Wade and I go out to dinner while Ed and Sue enjoy this special time with the kids. But, this year we decided to make dinner for everyone and all enjoy the special tradition together. It was a lovely evening, a great meal and special fellowship shared with our former next-door neighbors of ten years.
After dinner, the kids dove in to decorate their plates of cookies. As I watched, I could not believe how much they ate while decorating. I also discovered that it was probably best not to eat the cookies that they decorated, despite how delicious they were. The reason? As they ice the cookies, they lick the plastic knife, redip into their individual icing cups and continue in the same order....ice, lick, ice, lick, ice, lick, etc. I'm not sure what the saliva to icing ratio is on each cookie, but I'm guessing it's probably 1/1. After adding my two cents, the kids all suggested that Wade and I go out to dinner again next year so they could decorate their cookies in peace. Here's a quick peek into the evening....
