April Fools Day...
Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 10:34PM After a long drive yesterday, we arrived in Coronado, CA last evening. A perfect end to our first day of a much-needed spring get-away, which also coincided with my husband's birthday. With large smiles on our faces, we checked-in to our favorite hotel and found our rooms. No longer able to cram our six bodies into one hotel room, we reserved two adjoining rooms - one room for the kids and one room for us. Perfect. After dropping our stuff and settling in, we headed down to the hotel restaurant for a relaxing birthday dinner on the very last day of March.
After dinner, Wade and I discussed various, harmless April fools day pranks we could pull on the kids, the next day. The only reason a prank entered our mind is because the kids have been talking, for some time, about April fools ideas. More specifically, the boys have been fascinated by thoughts of tricking people on April 1st. So, of course, Wade decided that we should wake up and pretend there was something at home which required us to immediately drive home to AZ.
As everyone woke up, extremely excited to head to the beach, the kids slowly migrated into our room. Both of us were on our phones, checking e-mail and reading the news. Catching me a little off guard, Wade said, "There's no way you can get out of it, is there?" The kids all got quiet. "Do we need to go now?" He asked.
"Yes," I responded somberly. "We might have time for a quick breakfast, but we need to get back as early as possible."
"You heard your mom, kids, we need to pack and get out of here," Wade said. "We need to be home today."
I'm not sure which ones cried, but there were immediate tears as all four of the kids fled the room and fell into their beds consumed by despair. "It's our vacation. We just got here and we haven't even seen the beach," they chimed in. Two of them were crying and two were completely under the covers. Wade and I tried not to smile.
"OK, kids," Wade began, "this is how it feels when someone pulls an April fools day prank on you."
"Oh, that's not funny at all," they decide, relieved smiles filling four little faces as the boys completely crack up. Colton laughed so long and so hard that I wondered if he'd be able to stop. April fools day mischief is right up his alley.
Wade and I decided that it was pretty funny and looked at each other in victory, proud of how smoothly we pulled it off.

Great fun. One of the many pleasures of being a parent. I lol, hope you and W are having a great anniversary.
Thanks, Lou. Yes, good fun tricking the kids. Anniversary spent poolside and at the beach. It's nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of our crazy lives, even if for a few days.
