First day of school, girls only...
Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:44PM So today was the BIG day, for the girls anyway. Back to school! Audra (and I can barely say this out loud) is in high school. She's a freshman! Sierra, my little koala bear, is in 7th grade - middle school. Although I've been here for every moment of their every day, I can not begin to tell you where the time has gone. Our two little girls have certainly grown into beautiful young ladies and I am so very proud of the great ladies they are becoming.
Wade and I drove them to school this morning and told them we'd like to walk them to class. I wish I had snapped a photo of Audra's face. "You are kidding, right?" She asked. "You know that none of the parents walk kids to class at our age." Wade and I were kind of kidding, testing the waters, and it was clear we would be crossing some kind of imaginary, teenage line if we were to walk up and take pictures next to their homeroom doors. So, I took this picture from inside the car. They let me roll down my window, but wanted me to stay IN the car. I'm happy with the photo and they both gave me a kiss before taking off into their teenage world. It was a good day. But, I couldn't help wishing they were still little...
This is what I remember the first day of school looking like. I walked them to class and we took multiple photos along the way. They didn't care and for many years this was the "normal" routine. This photo was taken on Audra's first day of 1st grade and Sierra's first day of kindergarten. Buck (who was 3) insisted on a new Bob the Builder backpack, even though he was not going "back to school". (His was full of snacks for the park.) He also insisted on being in ALL the photos with the girls. How could I say no?
Here they are again, happily posing next to flag pole for another photo. I'm so grateful for these memories from when the kids were little and also grateful for the wonderful memories we continue to make.

What BEAUTIFUL girls you have...funny...I remember the boys the same way...small and willing to let me take them to class and take a million pictures!! Not this year...there "TOO OLD" to have me there, so, we had to do pictures at home. At least O wants me to be there...
They are indeed beautiful girls. Lucky they have their mom's good looks and not Cup Cake's. But I do love my brother Cup Cake. The older pictures are classic. Love the contrast.
