Distracted

Life has resumed, crazy as normal, after our completely wonderful two-week Christmas/New Year's break. Everyone, seamlessly, jumped right back into the groove this week and here we are....school, homework, piano, soccer, tennis, basketball, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. Life is good!

With our schedule officially back in fast forward, I've not had much computer time and although I've been meaning to sit and post on my blog, I've been severely distracted while following the blog of our dear friends' adoption in Ukraine. It's a journey that has spanned a good six years and Friday night, culminated in the safe arrival of daddy and new five year-old daughter back home. I can honestly say that I have prayed harder for this particular family, for such a very long time than I can remember praying for any other specific journey. There were setbacks, stumbles, downright falls and plenty of doubt along the way, but with God as their pilot, they now have three wonderful sons and a brand new daughter!

As I prayed this past week, I tried to imagine how difficult it was for this sweet little girl to leave her orphanage, the only home she had ever known, as well as leaving the women who had cared for her when no one else wanted her. And for her new dad, who stayed behind as the rest of his family returned to the states, so that he could complete all necessary paperwork to bring her home. I prayed for her new mom and her new brothers, who were excitedly awaiting her arrival. I also tried to imagine how our friend would communicate with his new little daughter as they traveled from Ukraine to Arizona - she speaks Russian and he English. All I could think of was love and how love, in any language, is always the same. We can smile at someone who doesn't speak our language, hold hands with someone, offer hugs and warm embraces. Even just patiently sharing another's company can imply love. I have no doubt that this sweet little orphan knew that she was loved and will come to know the even greater love of our Lord, Jesus Christ, as she grows up in her new family.

As distracted as I've been in recent weeks, prayerfully following our friends' journey, as soon as I knew they were all safely home, there was amazing peace in my soul. I so desperately wanted to be there when their flight arrived late on Friday night, but also felt like the moment belonged solely to them....a sweet reunion and a brand new daughter.

The Bible clearly tells us to look after orphans and how faithfully our friends pursued their mission to answer His call, despite the setbacks, obstacles and challenges. How blessed their new little daughter is to now have a family who will always adore her, who will come to know a God who will always love her and her precious little life, such a blessing to her new family who so desperately wanted her!
