Break
Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 11:16PM Although I did not end up getting any photos in Yuma, we all made it home safely late on Saturday. Wade and the boys met us at school with roses and lots of hugs. Little Colton was not thrilled with my absence and admitted shedding a few tears while I was away. It's safe to say that he was absolutely thrilled to have us all home and stuck to me like velcro the entire evening. He's a tough little rascal on the outside and such a tender soul on the inside - precious!
While in Yuma, a stomach bug spoiled the fun for a couple girls on Friday night and most probably because of my mothering, I ended up with the pesky bug on Sunday. Not fun! Thankfully, by Monday, I was feeling better and able to enjoy the boys, who are both home this week on spring break. We started the week with our semi-annual trip to the dentist for teeth cleaning, followed the next day by house cleaning and finally today, the bedroom cleaning.
Although it doesn't sound like a lot of fun thus far, we've made productivity enjoyable. Today after their bedroom overhaul, we took a trip for ice cream and did some shopping with their birthday money. Colton had five Target gift cards that he's patiently saved from his big day and Buck had two. Colton found exactly what he wanted, a stop watch, and still had cards left to spend....or "waste" as he kept saying...."I still have some money to waste here. I mean spend." I reminded him of the value of each dollar and how important it is to wisely choose things that he would be able to enjoy for a long while. After finding the stop watch, he decided to hold on to his remaining cards for another day. Smart boy.
Buck chose some kind of a shaking weight - a small barbell that shakes as you curl. On the way home, he read the box out loud and exclaimed, "It only takes six minutes a day for a good workout. That should be easy."
Walking in the door, Colton went straight for the scissors so I could cut his stop watch from its plastic prison. Meanwhile, Buck got his little barbell out as a smile filled his face. I left the room momentarily and returned to find the small brother timing the big brother as he shook the weight. Colton immediately reported, with obvious disappointment, that Buck could only shake the weight for two minutes. Buck admitted that although six minutes sounded like a short span, it felt like forever in the middle of the exercise. Together, we decided that two minutes was a great start and over time, six minutes wouldn't seem so long.
Tonight the boys are at a spring training (baseball) game with their dad and I'm guessing they're loving every minute. Colton took his new stop watch, so I'm sure he's timing each inning, how long it takes his dad to eat a hot dog and other important things. The girls and I managed to get through practice after school and after dinner and showers, are enjoying some girl time together - all three of us sitting in my bed watching Monk. Sweet.
Break week for the boys continues tomorrow and with their chores out of the way, they've requested to go see a movie. Although I wish the kids all shared the same break, it is nice to have boy time. Next week, the girls will be home on break and we've got plans for haircuts and pedicures. I'm sure there will be shopping and Starbucks on the itinerary, which is fine for this grateful mom who relishes each precious moment with my kids. Spring break is wonderful and life is good!
