A Day Off
Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 08:21PM The past week or two has been a blur, leaving not a spare minute to blog. A couple days after Audra's birthday, Wade celebrated 44. Two days later, our 17th anniversary arrived on the calendar, marked with a puffy heart and celebrated with a night out to dinner.
Although Pettit earth continues to spin at a frantic pace, I'm always grateful for tiny moments of peace and today, while the kids were in school, such peace came in the form of a quiet lunch with my dear friend, Sylvie. I love Sylvie, with her beautiful French Canadian accent and her warm, sweet, happy, fun personality...she is a gem! Of course her life is as crazy as mine, so it was a real joy and an honor that she would take time out of her hectic schedule to spend it with me.
With a dark, overcast sky accompanied by a gloriously cool breeze, we sat together outside enjoying our delicious lunch and long-overdue conversation. It was wonderful to catch up, to hear about her upcoming trip to Montreal and just laugh. As soon as we finished our yummy asparagus and salads, we walked a few doors down the sidewalk to my new favorite place, Yogurtology. This is the place that I blogged about when I attempted to have our kids "use their good judgement." (Update: they really do get the good judgement thing now.) There are 8 to 10 varieties of frozen yogurt followed by about 90 different toppings. I went straight for the oatmeal cookie flavor and after trying a sample, so did Sylvie. Having more willpower than me, she passed on the toppings while I spooned on excessive amounts of chocolate sprinkles...ahhh, heaven. We sat outside and savored the goodness while oohing and ahhhing our way through the delicious treat.
Today was definitely midweek bliss as everyone in the family had a (rare) day off of sports practices and getting to have lunch with my friend was icing on the day-off cake, or in this case, chocolate sprinkles on the frozen yogurt!
