A Winner

In an earlier post, I mentioned that Buck was starting his spring tackle football season and last night marked game #3.  It's good to see the boys really starting to play as a team, improving each game out and it's fun watching all the boys contribute. The boys who had been afraid to block are starting to get it and the boys who need to make tackles are beginning to get more aggressive. It's slow progress, but it's visible.

Buck is absolutely having a ball on this team! With the coach recognizing Buck's leadership ability, it's been a real boost to his confidence and his response has been a joy to watch. Last night, the offensive line started to block and with that came the team's first victory as the offense was able to put two touchdowns on the board. Buck had several keeper plays for first downs and his first ever touchdown run. With the team jumping up and down, there was our sweet Buck doing a couple fist pumps as he celebrated his romp into the end zone. My heart jumped for joy!

After getting home, getting everyone showered and tucked into bed with prayers, I tidied up the kitchen and made one last round to check on the kids. The girls were sleeping, Colton was out cold and I found Buck just sitting quietly, upright in his bed. Walking into the dark room, I sat down beside him and asked what he was thinking. "I was just thinking about the game and remembering how fun it was to score a touchdown for the team. I never thought I'd get to do what I'm doing this season and it sure is fun."

I held him close and kissed his sweet cheek, "You earned your spot, you are an amazing leader out there and you'll never forget how great that moment felt."

How grateful I am that God opened this door for Buck and no matter what the score is at the end of each game, he is always a winner!
